Kyle Benjamin Cruises to Victory in Pensacola

Jul 30, 2013

CORNELIUS, N.C (July 30, 2013) - 15-year-old Kyle Benjamin earned his seventh Super Late Model victory Friday night at Pensacola, Fla.'s Five Flags Speedway, holding off ARCA driver Grant Enfinger for the Southern Super Series victory.
Benjamin, who said he had a "top-five car," pounced on the lead shortly after the halfway break and pulled away from the competition to continue a season in which he has become a constant near the top of scoring pylons nationwide. Friday's result was the 10th time this season that he has finished first or second.
"We were running about fifth, battling hard, before the break. We made the right adjustments. The car tightened up and that's what we needed," said Benjamin. "Our cars (in the top five) were evenly matched, I'd say. When I got that early lead, everyone behind me just battled side by side. It allowed me to pull away."
Though Benjamin is hardly a novice when it comes to victory lane visits, the win was his first with midseason crew chief replacement Michael Masters at the helm.
"He's good to work with," Benjamin commented about Masters. "I'm proud of how this team has come together. It's not easy having to switch crew chiefs in the middle of the season and find a chemistry that works, but we've been able to do it."
Benjamin had hoped to double up on victories during the weekend. He was atop the practice charts at Mobile International Speedway before inclement weather washed out the night's scheduled show. His next event will be the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park on Saturday, August 10.
